B.S. in engineering degree - earn your degree at night, part time
Take the next step up your career ladder by earning your bachelor's degree in engineering, even if the undergraduate work you've done so far isn't in engineering. MSOE's new B.S. in engineering degree is designed for working adults who want to enhance their knowledge and professional credentials with an engineering degree.
If you need to take classes part time and in the evening, or you are a transfer student, the B.S. in engineering program is designed for you. Students from a variety of educational paths, such as non-engineering B.S. programs, two-year pre-engineering or technology programs, will find it easier to pursue an engineering degree.
You'll get comprehensive coverage of the basic sciences, engineering sciences and design with the opportunity to tailor the program to your unique career goals through numerous electives, including electives in the areas of product design and enterprise systems. This is the only program of its kind you'll find in Wisconsin.
Program Goals
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree is designed to provide:
- A part-time evening offering in the engineering field.
- A program tailored to the adult learner, who may already have previous college experience, an engineering-related career, and/or very clear professional objectives for continued study in engineering.
- Both a firm grounding in the fundamentals of engineering science and engineering design.
- Numerous elective options to allow for flexibility and customization of the technical focus of the degree. Suggested elective tracks in Product Design (mechanical design, CAD, materials, design for quality) and Enterprise Systems (manufacturing systems, facilities, Lean manufacturing, quality assurance) will be available, but other unique interdisciplinary specialties will be accommodated.
Educational Objectives
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree will prepare graduates who will:
- Use their engineering, design, business and problem-solving skills to contribute professionally in an industrial environment.
- Demonstrate initiative, leadership, teamwork and continued development in their professional careers.
- Use their broad education to interpret and understand their roles as professionals in industry and society.
Outcomes
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program, the student will have:
- an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, business and engineering
- an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
- an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within the types of realistic constraints seen in an industrial environment
- an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
- an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems
- an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
- an ability to communicate effectively, using verbal, written and graphical means
- the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context
- a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning
- a knowledge of the contemporary issues in their profession
- an ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
