Electrical Engineers -- creating the future |
|
The microprocessor is at the heart of nearly all innovations in our modern
technological world.
It is the key building block that electrical engineers use to create new things.
Using a team approach, you'll solve problems and help people.

In the car or in the home, satellite radio lets listeners
enjoy their favorite music. On car trips you can listen to the
same station from coast to coast. Electrical engineers use
digital signal processing, wireless techniques, microprocessors,
and audio circuitry to create this innovative system.

Helping people is a key goal of electrical engineers. As in most
designs, a team of electrical engineers worked together to design
a system -- in this case, a
medical mri scanner. They used magnetics, imaging methods,
digital signal processing, microprocessors, and motors to
create a solution that helps us all.

Modern cellular phones have more than just voice capability. They often include
text messaging, web browsing and audio player features. Electrical engineers design
cell phones using the following technologies: digital signal processing, circuits,
microprocessors, communications, wireless methods, and human factors concerns.

Digital cameras are revolutionizing the world of photography. Freedom to shoot
pictures without concern for film cost, and capability of holding thousands of pictures
in memory, make them an appealing choice. Electrical engineers design
them using expertise in digital image processing, circuits, microprocessors, memory technologies,
and optics.

Computer networks involve many electrical engineering methods including microprocessors,
communications, wireless techniques, electronic circuits, digital logic and
interface methods. Sharing an Internet connection with a wireless router such as this one,
or connecting computers in your home or office, magnifies an already powerful computing
platform.

Music and mp3 players go "hand in hand" today. The freedom to carry with you a complete song collection
really enhances the listening process. Electrical engineers use digital signal processing, microprocessors,
electronic circuits, digital logic, and memory techiques to create mp3 players.

A long plane or car trip is a lot more fun with a portable
DVD movie player. The video and audio created by the
actors is stored in digital form on an inexpensive piece or rugged
plastic. The quality of playback will remain unsurpassed for an
extraordinarily long time thanks to electrical engineers! They use
digital signal processing, microprocessors, motors, displays,
electronics, and amplifiers to create this innovative product.

You're right, electrical engineers didn't invent the automobile. But
we are re-inventing the car for the 21st century! Many of the modern
innovations in vehicles come from electronics -- electronic ignition, antilock brakes,
security system, air bags, and more are all electronics-based. We (and you!) will
use microprocessors, sensors, motors, and control systems to enhance driving in the future.
And don't forget our (your) role in hybrid and electric vehicles.
