Is there a MCSA/MCSE Certification in your future?

MSOE is a Microsoft IT Academy offering the MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) and MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) in Windows Server 2003 course series. Individuals are required to pass 4 exams for the MCSA: 2 core networking system exams, 1 design exam, and 1 elective exam, or 7 exams for the MCSE: 4 core networking system exams, 1 client operating system exam, 1 design exam, and 1 elective exam. Certification exams are administered by Sylvan Testing centers or Pearson VUE testing centers. MSOE's VUE certification testing center is located in B309. CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ Course Descriptions

MS419 CompTIA A+ Certification Course. (3 credits)
This course provides students with the knowledge and hands-on lab-based experience necessary to support personal computers and peripherals. It prepares students for the CompTia A+ certification exam by providing a firm foundation of technical skills and knowledge. Topics covered include computer bus architecture, memory technologies, microprocessors, disk storage, troubleshooting, and operating system installation and configuration. This course is designed to prepare non-computer literate individuals with the background necessary to enter the Microsoft MCSE, MCSA, or Novell CNE programs.

MS479 CompTIA Network+ Certification Course. (3 credits)
This lab-based course replaces MS-4732 Networking Essentials. Developed by CompTia, earning the Network+ Certification means that the candidate possesses the knowledge needed to configure and install the TCP/IP client. The Network+ exam covers a wide range of vendor and product neutral networking technologies that can also serve as a prerequisite for vendorspecific IT certifications. Novell accepts the Network+ certification exam in place of its Networking Technologies exam for all Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) candidates. Topics covered include in-depth coverage of the OSI Model and the corresponding protocols, transmission media, protocols, bridging, switching hubs, routers, the 802.x standards and WAN technologies.

MS4795 CompTIA Security+ Certification Course. (3 credits)
The CompTia Security+ vendor-neutral certification exam is the worldwide standard of competency for the foundation-level security practitioner. Companies that have contributed to the development of the Security+ Certification include IBM, Microsoft, Verisign, the FBI and the US Secret Service. This lab-based course covers general security topics such as access control and virus attacks, basics of cryptography, communication security for remote access, e-mail, wireless networks, operational and organizational security, and infrastructure security. (prereq: MS-479 or a basic understanding of networks)

It is highly recommended that beginning network technicians take MS419 and/or MS479 before taking any of the following Microsoft Windows Server 2003 MCSA/MCSE courses.

Windows XP/2003 Course Descriptions

MS4201 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (4 credits)
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install and configure Microsoft Windows XP Professional. MS-4201 is a hands-on lab-based course designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in a Windows XP/2003 environment. Topics include planning, installing and configuring, and supporting Windows XP Professional, managing users and groups, installing and configuring protocols, DNS, Active Directory Services and troubleshooting resources. The course covers material in Microsoft’s official curriculum course #2272-Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows XP Professional and the associated certification exam #70-270. (prereq: MS-419, MS-479 or networking experience equivalent, or consent of instructor or program director)

MS4211 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (4 credits)
This is a lab-based course that provides students with the knowledge and skills to install, configure and customize Windows Server 2003. Topics covered include installation and configuration of Windows Server 2003, managing user, computer, and group accounts; managing access to network resources; managing printers, managing an organizational unit in a network based on Active Directory service; and implementing Group Policy to manage users and computers. MS-4211 is a Microsoft official academic course “Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment” and covers material in Microsoft’s official curriculum courses (MOC) #2274 - Managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment and #22745 - Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment, and the associated certification exam #70-290. (prereq: one of the following: MS-479, MS-420, MS-4201, or networking experience equivalent)

MS4221 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Services (4 credits)
This is a lab-based course that provides students with the knowledge and skills to successfully plan, implement, and troubleshoot a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory service infrastructure. The course focuses on a Windows Server 2003 directory service environment, including forest and domain structure, Domain Name Systems (DNS), site topology and replication, organizational unit structure and delegation of administration, Group Policy, and user, group, and computer account strategies. MS-4221 is the Microsoft official academic course “Planning Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure” and covers material in Microsoft’s official curriculum courses (MOC) #2279 - Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure, and the associated certification exam #70-294. MS4231 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure Administration (4 credits)
This is a lab-based course that provides students with the knowledge and skills to implement, manage, and maintain a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network infrastructure. Topics covered include implementing routing; implementing, managing, and maintaining Dynamic Host configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Systems (DNS), and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS); securing Internet Protocol (IP) traffic with Internet Protocol security (IPSec) and certificates; implementing a network access infrastructure by configuring the connections for remote access clients; and managing and monitoring network access. MS4241 Designing a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure (4 credits)
This lab-based course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design an Active Directory and network infrastructure that meets the technical and business requirements of an organization. Topics include analysis and design of DNS, WINS, routing, Active Directory forest and domain infrastructures, and security structure.
