The MSOE Experience
for Business

lab
Businesses, both local and national, have long recognized the value of an MSOE degree. However, MSOE's involvement with the business community does not begin and end with the hiring of our graduates. The Rader School of Business provides businesses and other organizations with several types of opportunities to become part of the MSOE experience.

On-site Programs

MSOE's Rader School of Business offers businesses and other organizations a variety of on-site educational programs. Among the types of programs available are:
  • Business degree programs: Courses that lead to a business degree can be held at a company site. For more information, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.
  • Professional development programs: Any of the professional development programs, such as project management or Lean manufacturing, offered through MSOE can be held at a company site. For more information, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.
  • Specialized programs: The Rader of School of Business works with companies to develop specific programs, whether workshops or seminars, that address a company's training and educational needs. Topics range from developing effective presentations to legal issues in the workplace to managing virtual teams. For more information, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

Student Internships

Student internships provide companies with an opportunity to directly participate in the educational process. It's a "win-win" situation. Students get invaluable experience in the workplace and companies get highly motivated employees who have the skills for the modern business world. It is not surprising that many of the student interns are later hired by the companies. Companies that have participated in the student internship program include:

  • Arthur Andersen
  • Bosch Automation Technology
  • Brady Corp.
  • Caterpillar
  • Compaq Computer
  • Eaton Corp.
  • Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital
  • Harley-Davidson
  • IBM
  • S.C. Johnson
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Marshfield Medical Research Foundation
  • Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District
  • Northwestern Mutual
  • Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley
  • UPS

For more information on the internship program, contact the internship coordinator at the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

Classroom Participation

A valuable part of a student's classroom experience is the opportunity to hear from and interact with business and industry representatives. Making a manager or executive available as a guest lecturer is an important contribution that companies can make in providing students with a hands-on view of a particular topic. For more information on guest lecturer opportunities, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

Student Projects

Since the Rader School of Business stresses the practical application of principles taught in the classroom, many courses involve a term-long project. MSOE professors continually are looking for real-world projects that students can undertake. Some recent examples include developing e-business plans for several local businesses, creating an advertising campaign for an energy group, and producing a marketing plan for a new product introduction. To have an energetic group of students work on one of your projects, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

Faculty Consulting

Faculty at the Rader School of Business actively engage in consulting. This not only benefits their clients, but also enables faculty to maintain an awareness of the realities of today's highly competitive business environment. To learn more about faculty consultants, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

MSOE Business Leaders Association (MBLA)

The MBLA represents the leaders of tomorrow. Comprised of energetic and motivated students, this student organization plans and arranges speaking events featuring prominent business executives, social events that present an opportunity for business people and students to meet in an informal setting, and other activities aimed at enhancing the MSOE educational experience. To become a corporate participant in the MBLA, contact the Rader School of Business or call (414) 277-7279.

Business Video Library

Through a generous donation from the Metropolitan Milwaukee Area Chamber of Commerce, MSOE has obtained an extensive video collection primarily devoted to business and management topics. The collection features hard-to-find productions from leading business and management theorists, such as Gary Hamel and Michael Porter. For a modest yearly fee, companies have unlimited access to the collection. For more information, click here.

Business Advisory Council

The Rader School of Business is committed to maintaining a strong relationship with the local business community. As part of that, we invite select individuals from local businesses to serve on Business Advisory Councils that provide counsel and advice on curriculum offerings, class projects and other issues affecting the quality of education at MSOE. Each of our degree programs has a Business Advisory Council.
