Study Abroad at
Czech Technical University
Prague, Czech Republic

Students enrolled at MSOE have the opportunity to study at one of the oldest and best technical universities in the world, Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, Czech Republic. The program often is called an exchange program, because CTU students also come to MSOE to study.

MSOE encourages its students to consider the opportunity this program offers. American business is competing on an international level like at no other time in history. And foreign companies are buying or forming alliances with American companies at a record pace, so there is a great likelihood MSOE graduates will do business with or even work for a foreign company. The graduate who has traveled internationally, speaks a foreign language or has an understanding of the cultures and traditions of other nations will have a marked advantage.

Prague, Czech Republic

Capital of the Czech Republic, Prague’s spired buildings, famed bridges over the flowing Vltava River and cobbled streets make it one of the world’s most beautiful and charming cities. The only major city of Central Europe to escape the bombs of World Wars I and II, it is Europe’s best-preserved Baroque city along with a rich heritage of 20th-century Art Nouveau design. At the center of Prague is the pedestrian-friendly Old Town, the Lesser Town and the Jewish Quarter. More than a place of architecture and traditional culture, the city also is the social and cultural center of the Czech Republic with an entrepreneurial energy coursing through its streets. Architectural Engineering and Construction Management Exchange Program

Prague from the bell tower of St. Vitus Cathedral Architectural Engineering or Construction Management students may study at Czech Technical University for one semester, from February through June of their junior year. CTU offers a variety of classes taught in English, with the added cultural benefit of immersion in Central European culture. Students are in classes with their Czech counterparts as well as other international students. Some of the Czech students who are in classes with the program participants are themselves future exchange students who plan to study at MSOE the following year. There is great camaraderie among the students and friendships are formed.

Architectural Engineering or Construction Management students wishing to participate in this exchange program must meet with the AE&BC Department Chair before the end of September of their junior year to plan their individualized programs of academic study. Participating students must be in good academic standing and must be on track in their particular technical specialty course areas.

Because the CTU semester ends in early June, many participants choose to travel Europe for the remainder of the month of June before heading home to the United States. Architectural Engineering or Construction Management students participating in the Czech Tech exchange program must typically return to MSOE by July 1 in order to attend required summer courses that were deferred during their studies in Prague. Details on these summer course offerings are available through the AE&BC department office.
