MSOE Admission Office: International Undergraduate Admission Policy

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) emphasizes quality and high academic standards. MSOE is seeking students with a high potential for success. Each applicant is reviewed on an individual basis, in all of the programs regardless of race, sex, creed, or ethnic background.

Official descriptions of academic records attesting to all past educational experience must be forwarded to the MSOE Admission Office.

A minimum English proficiency is required for admission. The proficiency requirement can be satisfied by:

  1. Submission of an official score report indicating a score of 213 computer based TOEFL (79 Internet based) composite for undergraduate or graduate admission or a composite score of 173 computer based TOEFL score (61 Internet based) for the English as a Second Language undergraduate program.
  2. Submission of an official IELTS score report indicating a score of 6.5 composite for undergraduate or graduate admission or a composite score of 5.0-6.0 for the English as a Second Language undergraduate program. IELTS is jointly managed by: University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council, and IDP: IELTS Australia. Registration forms for the IELTS can be obtained at www.ielts.org.
  3. Satisfactory completion of Level 109 of intensive English study at any ELS Language Center in the United States.
  4. Attending a United States secondary school and taking the regular required English courses school for at least two years.
  5. If you have attended a post secondary school at an accredited United States post secondary school for at least 24 credits worth of classes.

Registration forms for the TOEFL may be obtained from most U.S. Embassies and/or Consulate Offices or online at www.toefl.org

When you submit an application or when you take your test please request ETS to send your scores directly to Milwaukee School of Engineering. MSOE institutional code for ETS is 1476.

In order to begin processing an application for admission, the following materials must be received by the Assistant Director, International Services at least 60 days prior to the beginning of the term you intend to begin your studies at MSOE:

  1. Completed international undergraduate student application for admission. (Online applications are free to submit)
  2. (For paper applications) $ 25.00 application fee made payable in U.S. funds and drawn on a U.S. bank.
  3. TOEFL results showing a minimum composite score of 173 computer based (61 Internet based) or higher or the IELTS minimum composite score of 5.0 or higher.
  4. English language translations of all records of academic work, including detailed grade report or mark list. Sent directly from your school(s) or testing center(s) to MSOE.
  5. A complete certification of financial responsibility with all the correct signatures and seals verifying support for 4 years of college expenses. Please use the MSOE financial certificate form that can be accessed online.
  6. A copy of a current passport.
  7. Note: Students currently attending a United States academic institution must also submit a Transfer Form for International Students. This form must be completed by the International Student Advisor of the school the student is transferring from with the applicant's authorization to release information requested in the form. Please contact the MSOE Admission Office if you need this form.

International student application processing may take up to 60 days for completion. Upon completion of the application review, the Dean of Admission will notify the applicant of the Admission Committee's decision. The application deadine is two months before the beginning date of the term you plan to attend MSOE. Students can start their program at MSOE at the beginning of any one of the four quarters. However, it is recommended that the students start in the fall quarter (September), which marks the official beginning of an academic year. Please refer to the MSOE calendar to see important dates.

Transfer Credit: Please send all official course descriptions of all post-secondary school courses directly to MSOE. These course descriptions should contain at least a few sentences that describe the course content of each course that you took at the post-secondary school. These course descriptions will then be utilized for the determination of which courses will be accepted for credit at MSOE. Courses will only be evaluated once a prospective MSOE student is accepted to MSOE and upon retrieval of all course descriptions.
