Because of Milwaukee's northern location,residents can truly enjoy the beauty found in each of the four seasons - whether it be the cherry and apple blossoms of spring, the refreshing lake breezes of summer, the brilliant colors of fall or the glistening snow of winter.

Milwaukee is located on roughly the same latitude as Eugene, Oregon; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Boston, Massachusetts; and Genoa, Italy. Lake Michigan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, moderates temperatures, taking the sizzle out of the summer sun and warming winter winds.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures range from an average high of 53 degrees Fahrenheit (14.4 Celsius) in the spring, 78 degrees Fahrenheit (25.5 Celsius) in the summer, 59 degrees (15 Celsius) in the fall and 29 degrees Fahrenheit (-1.7 Celsius) in the winter.

Average precipitation is 31 inches (79 centimeters). The area receives 41 inches (104 centimeters) of snowfall, which equals slightly less than 5 inches (13 centimeters) of rain.

Students from tropical regions will need to make major adjustments to the winter temperatures. Appropriate winter clothing will be needed and may be purchased in Milwaukee.
