CompTIA A+ Certificate Program

Overview

The MSOE Rader School of Business is proud to offer the CompTIA A+ Certification Program as part of our computer certificate program, which includes the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE), and the Novell Certified NetWare Administrator (CNA) and Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE).

Benefits

CompTIA A+ Certification is the world's only internationally recognized standard for PC Support and service skills. It was developed in the U.S. by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), which currently is the world's third largest certification program.

The CompTIA A+ exams cover a broad range of hardware and software technologies, but are not related to any vendor-specific products. To become certified, a student must pass two exams-the core exam and one specialty exam (either MS Windows/DOS or Macintosh). Students who pass the two exams become certified, demonstrating basic knowledge of configuring, installing, diagnosing, repairing, upgrading and maintaining microcomputers and associated technologies.

Who Should Attend?

Technicians, computer customer service and computer support representatives and IT managers would benefit from this certificate. It is highly recommended that beginning network technicians take MS419 before taking any of the Microsoft Windows 2000 MCSE courses. By offering this certification program, MSOE is preparing individuals to enter the workforce with the skills necessary to begin a PC support and service career. Possessing this certificate is beneficial in opening many doors to employment and having the skills necessary to perform those jobs when hired.

Schedule/Course Descriptions

MS-419 CompTIA A+ Certification (3 credits)
This course provides students with the knowledge and hands-on lab-based experience necessary to support personal computers and peripherals. It prepares students for the CompTia A+ certification exam by providing a firm foundation of technical skills and knowledge. Topics covered include computer bus architecture, memory technologies, microprocessors, disk storage, troubleshooting, and operating system installation and configuration. This course is designed to prepare non-computer literate individuals with the background necessary to enter the Microsoft MCSE, MCSA, or Novell CNE programs. (prerequisite: none)
